Someone forgot to set their handbrake.

Or like, put it in first.

Handbrake->First Gear-> Get out.
That’s what needs to happen every time you turn the car off and take the key out. Make sure that shit becomes a part of your muscle memory. That way, even if you forget to do it, you won’t forget to do it.
You don’t want to come out of wherever you are doing whatever you’re doing only to find your car rolled into a busy intersection or down the hill into a tree.

That’s like one of the few redeeming Florida qualities. No hills. Like everything is flat. Clearly though it didn’t matter here.
Even though I’ve got an automatic I always set the handbrake.Just a habit now.
Could have been much worse for him though.

There are no hills, but I live near some inclines. It’s unlikely that I will ever park somewhere hilly, but that’s exactly why I make the bloody effort to commit to those steps. Shit usually goes wrong when you get lazy and complacent. The one day where you need your brake on is guaranteed to be the day you forgot to do it.

I do this, so long as there isn’t any pressure on the transmission.

Yup, I’ve added to that turning to back the headlight switch, even in the middle of a nice sunny day. I usually do at the same time as I turn the key out, so both hands are making essentially the same motion (if your headlight switch is on you turn signal stock. )

I’m trying not to laugh. It’s not working.

I saw a c5 vette roll backwards out of the pet store parking lot into stopped traffic on the street as a kid, went right into the side of a stopped car at the light. Five min later the dude comes out and freaks.

did this until I ruined my right rear rotor right after parking in the paddock off the track

I’d rather eat a rotor than have my car roll into traffic. I’m gonna keep at it.

well as long as you don’t track your car then you’re good!

The wheel well rub usually keeps this one in place.

I saw it and was cracking up. Wish I could have stayed to see them react but I was already late for work
(Someone else was going inside to tell the owners)

This almost happened to me once. My ebrake bit the dust on my Supra (pulled up and it snapped). I was scrapping up money together to fix it, so I park at work at a sliiiight incline. I leave it in 1st gear (because every manual transmission master race knows this) and I walk away. I’m about to walk up the stairs when I see another co-worker and he asks if he can see what’s under my hood. I say “sure” and we walk over, only to see the car slowly creep backwards. I quickly unlock it, get int, and park it on a further (and flatter) spot. Fixed my ebrake that night with a small loan from my dad.

Going from Autotragic to Manual, I may have forgotten to put the handbrake down a few times when I get ready to go, so I basically have to put it in gear because my handbrake is...lacking...

Yep, I had the handbrake cable snap after I’d gone into home depot once. Didn’t seem like I was on an incline but a car has a ton of potential energy at even an imperceptible grade. Rolled all the way through the parking lot and picked up enough speed that it jumped the curb then rolled out into a major road (RT 1 in Alexandria) during rush hour where it got smacked by a city bus. Barely missed a bus shelter with 5 folks in it hiding from the rain. I was extremely lucky no one got hurt in that fuck up.

Unless it’s a rotary, then just trust the handbrake.

Any particular reason for that?

Yes, if you have the car in 1st and it happens to be on a steep enough hill(doesn't take much to turn over a little rotary) and it starts to roll in gear backwards, it can do some interesting damage internally. Seals get worn in going one direction, sometimes they don't like going the other.

Looks pretty level, would have been perfect to just leave it in gear. But yeah handbrake additionally could not hurt. Only time I avoid the hand brake is if I park for an extended length of time on level ground but the car is always left in gear.

I wouldn’t ever drive a yellow vehicle, but this color is awesome.
